The Art of Domaining

By Jason Drohn

The Art of Domaining: A Comprehensive Guide for Domainers

What would it be like to have a 5 acre piece of property on the busiest road in your city? You know - that street where all the restaurants and hotels are going up. If only you knew that that street would have been popular 10 years ago… You could have picked up the real estate for a FRACTION of what you could sell it for now.

Domain names represent the exact same opportunity, only in our digital world. When most people think about how small a domain name is in comparison to the Internet, they immediately discount it as not being worth very much. In truth, a domain name can be worth millions of dollars to the right buyer, or represent thousands of dollars a day in type in traffic depending on how you use it.

The Art of Domaining is written to be a guide to domaining. This revolutionary ebook will teach you how to pick good domain names, what to look for in parking programs, how to sell your domains for maximum dollar, and so much more.

Honestly, I get giddy each time I think about all the money I have made from something that is so often overlooked. And frankly, I congratulate you on having the foresight to get into the industry while it is still in its infancy!

Discover the secrets of Domaining

When I set out to learn about domain names, years ago, I was amazed at how little hard research and insight had been put into it. In order to even begin to get a feel for the industry, I had to wade through countless forum posts and invest thousands of dollars before I even got an idea of what I was doing.

Things haven’t changed in all these years.

Now, registering domain names is pretty mainstream. Everyone and their brother has a website to some degree or another. Usually, it is a family name or a business name. Rarely do those domain names have any real value though. They are only valuable to the business they were bought for! What The Art of Domaining gives you is much different though. This book shows you how to to come up with great domain names, and then details what steps to take after that - which makes you money!

What still amazes me is all the information you need to make money from domaining is right under your nose. In fact, when I picked up the skill, I didn’t have to change anything about my daily habits. I just started looking the content I was already reading differently! I already had all the tools to make $500 a day with domain names, I just had to put it all together!

I show you how to research keywords, register great domains names, park them, sell them, and so much more…

In The Art of Domaining, I give you the tools necessary to be a successful domainer. Not only do I show you the best places to register domain names, but I go into the details about where to go for domain name ideas. I show you the process I use day in and day out, which has resulted in 5 digit domain name sales and 4 digit daily passive income. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO

Morgan: TV Will Make Behavioral Targeting A $10 Billion Business

Behavioral targeting — online ads personalized in response to consumers’ Web-surfing behavior — holds big promise and generates a lot of controversy. But for now it remain an incredibly small niche — a mere $775 million in 2008, according to eMarketer.

That’s a tiny fraction of the $26 billion online ad market in the U.S. and even smaller than another niche, Web video advertising, expected to reap $1.4 billion in 2008.

Yet, Dave Morgan, founder of behavioral targeting pioneer Tacoda Systems, thinks dollars spent on that type of advertising will grow 85% a year for the next five years, and will hit $10 billion in 2012. Total online ad spending is expected to double in the same timeframe, according to MediaPost, to $51.2 billion. Morgan sold Tacoda to AOL last July; he’s now chairman of The Tennis Company.

You’d expect Morgan to be bullish on behavioral targeting, since he’s devoted a good part of his career to the concept (disclosure: Dave is an investor in SAI publisher Silicon Alley Media). But how can behavioral targeting grow so much faster than online advertising? Because online won’t drive the growth. TV will, once cable operators start targeting ads with IP-enabled set-tops in the next three years.

That said, Morgan says a couple things have to go right for this call to come to pass. First, penetration of digital set-tops needs to keep going up, and cable operators need to be willing to share the data they collect with advertisers. Certainly cable operators at least say they must figure out targeted ads, and they’re working on their own national platform, the Comcast-led Canoe Ventures, with the goal of offering targeted ads to individual homes.

Second, and perhaps more importantly, the pro-privacy lobbying effort on Capitol Hill needs to lose steam. A Congressional inquiry put a stop to cable operators’ attempt to spy on their broadband subscribers through NebuAd. Just wait until Congress gets wind of cable operators tracking their channel flipping…

Knol

July 23rd, 2008

cashfan.jpg

Jimmy Wales’ Wikipedia is the seventh most visited site on the Net (says Alexa), and Google isn’t going to let all those pageviews escape its grasp.
Today the company opened its “Knol” user-generated guide-to-everything to the public, encouraging Web surfers to create content on topics ranging from backpacking to lung cancer.
But a few key differences between Knol and Wikipedia stand out. First, articles on Knol are bylined, which should encourage a greater pool of contributors than those willing to anonymously contribute to the greater good of Wikipedia.

Secondly, authors get paid.

From the announcement:
At the discretion of the author, a knol may include ads from our AdSense program. If an author chooses to include ads, Google will provide the author with a revenue share from the proceeds of those ad placements.
The idea sounds promising, but it’s not without its kinks. Copyright/licensing issues may be become more prominent for Knol than Wikipedia, as Google will directly sell ads against some Knol pages. (Google signed an agreement with the New Yorker magazine to allow one cartoon per Knol.) And Google still seems to have no idea how to organize its content: For the big launch, a “featured knol” on the site’s main page is “Toilet Clogs: Solutions for the most common problems.”

My take

Read BIG Success.

Given Goggle’s search monopoly - will Knol or Wikipedia win out in Goggle’s organic search results? hmm well I suspect Google’s Knol listings may do very well (until a lawsuit or two at least)

Given Google’s loss maker YouTube - this venture (Knol) will be commercialised to the max. They have to keep their shareholders happy - especially right now.

YouTube Exec: We’re Selling Ads Against ‘Less Than 3%’ Of Our Videos

youtube pogo.jpg

We know Google’s YouTube is a tough sell for advertisers. But video site’s sales team may be having an even tougher time than recent reports suggest. YouTube sales manager Brian Cusack says YouTube is able to sell ads against “less than 3%” of the total videos on the site. That shaves more than a point off the 4% floated by the WSJ two weeks ago, which cited “one person familiar with the matter.”In comments to a ClickZ conference on online video in New York, Cusack said YouTube had been embraced by the movie studio and TV network advertisers, and was making progress with more conservative marketers in retail, consumer packaged goods and home improvement categories, which are overcoming the “perceived risk of what appearing next to user-generated content.”

The biggest unknown: How many of the 4 billion or so YouTube videos watched each month actually carry ads. Presumably some of the most popular are also high-quality clips produced by partners, and those may have ads. On the other hand many of the viral hits on the site, such as last week’s “Homemade Porn,” run without advertising

Either way, it’s a sign that while YouTube has a long way to go, or perhaps a testament to their abilities that they’ll manage $200 million in 2008 revenue from such a small sliver of videos offered on the site.

GoogleDigg

July 22nd, 2008

jayadelson2.jpg

Yet again, reports are surfacing that Google is buying social news site Digg. This time, TechCrunch reports that Google is in final negotiations to pick up Digg for about $200 million. This is the third time so far this year that Google has allegedly been in talks re: to buying the company.

If true, it’s a great return for Digg’s investors, which include Greylock Partners, Omidyar Network, Netscape founder Marc Andreessen, and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman; Digg has raised just $11.3 million in total funding, according to TechCrunch.

If the deal goes through, TechCrunch says Digg’s ad deal with Microsoft would be terminated.

Tidbits

July 22nd, 2008

I noticed Owen Frager’s new site on domaining.com - it’s at www.grandnames.com Looks like a great idea to me, a nice domain name too imo. I’m seriously thinking of signing upto it as I get the feeling it’ll do well. We all know how tricky it is to get a new venture off the ground but it look’s like he’s got the most important part right - making sure to base it on a great idea.

On another note Kelly Lieberman sent me an email last night, it’s always great to hear from another domainer as I always learn something new - hopefully they do too. Kelly mentioned a domain parking company to me that she uses DomainEmbarking.com - I hadn’t even heard of it before. Had a quick look and it looks like a very interesting idea. Anyone else used them? Feel free to send over your reviews and I’ll post them.

SuperAdvert.com

July 22nd, 2008

 blinkxvideo.jpg

I just sent the domain SuperAdvert.com to auction at Sedo

I really like this one but decided to send it to auction with a $70 bid with no reserve.

I’m in the business of selling domains so i’ll let the market decide it’s worth. If it goes for a good bit more then great. If not c’est la vie.

Google returns over 3 million results and I think it’s highly brandable. We’ll see if anyone else does.

If it catches your eye you can find it here. Auction Listing
